The idiocy of pop music...

On the countdown by Take40 Australia , is the list of the top 40 songs downloaded from Bigpond Music. These are graded weekly. These ones are as of today(6 August 2005). Here are my opinions:

1: We Belong Together (Mariah Carey)
Mariah Carey? Another young Western girl with perfect looking features and sexy (sic) looking album covers? Please, waiters, we've had enough of that soup, give us the main course. People (preferably pretty, of course, but not a requirement) that actually have a decent voice and will actually entertain audiences like the rock bands of the 60's and 70's used to do should go far. In my opinion, anyway.

2: Incomplete (Backstreet Boys)
Backstreet Boys, a male band (der) that has been around forever. At least, forever in the pop music industry. Incomplete is one of their newer songs, but I haven't heard it. No comment.

3: Bad Day (Daniel Powter)
Daniel Powter? Who on earth is he? There's so many celebrities anyway, a new one doesn't make much difference.

4: Voodoo Child (Rogue Traders)
Refer to number 3.

5: Lonely (Akon)
I've heard of this artist (mainly by sneaking onto my brother's MSN address and looking at what his friends are listening to) but no, I haven't heard anything from him/her. Too bothered to find out their gender.

6: Feel Good Inc. (Gorillaz)
Refer to number 3.

7: This Is How A Heart Breaks (Rob Thomas)
Again, refer to number 3.

8: Wake Me Up When September Ends (Green Day)
From the same band as Boulevard of Broken Dreams, and indeed the same album (American Idiot), Wake Me Up When September Ends is a pretty old (as in last year) song but still popular. Yay. A male band that is pretty famous.

9: Untitled (Simple Plan)
Untitled is a pretty good song, written by a pretty good band. Simple Plan is also a male band that wrote Welcome To My Life, which is one of my favourite songs ever (noticing that as I'm only 11, I haven't listened to many.

10: Don't Phunk With My Heart (Black Eyed Peas)
A very famous mixed band, Black Eyed Peas is touring Australia. But I am so deprived of music anyway, so I've never heard it. There are millions of songs anyway.

From now on I am only commenting on ones I feel like. There is another 30.

14: Crazy Frog Axel F
A really annoying sound, Crazy Frog was developed by a Scandinavian teenager who sent the sound via email to all his friends, who forwarded it to absolutely anyone at all. In 1997, an American designer designed a comical frog to go with the sound. An American company bought the rights to the frog and the sound, and from there teenagers started to download it as a ringtone. Why download it, when it's so irritating anyway?

15: Hollaback Girl (Gwen Stefani)
After tracking its progress on the charts, I was surprised to see it so far down the list. Hollaback Girl is a song with a nice lilt but LOTS of the word shit. Not suitable for young children. I always thought Gwen Stefani sounded like a squeaky record anyway.

16: Lose Control (Missy Elliot)
This was pretty far down too. Missy Elliot is not as squeaky as Gwen Stefani but still serves the same demographic.

22: Speed of Sound (Coldplay)
Definitely one of my favourite songs ever, Speed of Sound is a really good song from a really good album, X&Y. Coldplay is a British male band that is really good. Case closed.

24: A Little Too Late (Delta Goodrem)
The singer who grew up in our area and then, after reigning over the charts in Australia, suddenly moved to England to be with her boyfriend Brian McFadden, then became a whole lot famous here. Only 24 on this countdown.

27: Schnappi, Das Kleine Krokodil (Schnappi)
Written by a then four-year-old Scandinavian (isn't it funny how they all seem to come from America or Sweden somewhere?) girl, Schnappi was first hosted on the internet by the young girl's parents for fun. Then it all got commercial and wrecked the fun. Ah well.

29: Just A Lil Bit (50 Cent)
This band was really famous about a year ago until it sort of got not-famous anymore. The End.

31: Hurts So Bad (Anthony Callea)
The runner-up of last year's Australian Idol, he was meant to be not as successful as the slightly overweight winner, Casey Donovan. But inevitably he turned out to be more marketable
